Kahiapo Tavaris of the Ice Palace Hawaii figure skating school and Anthony Sabatini of HOHI have teamed up to introduce hockey to those little guys and girls who want to learn how to skate and play the game of hockey.
The Hockey 101 skating class is for those younger kids (the class will take anyone regardless of age) that have never skated before or are new to skating and want to learn and play the game of hockey.
The tots in this class are completely new to the sport of hockey and most are under equipped or have no equipment at all. Most of the skaters are using winter mittens instead of hockey gloves and the littlest guy on the ice has hockey gloves that are so big we had to duc tape them to his elbow pads to keep them from falling off. There are 3 skaters that are taking the class in rental figure skates because the rink does not have hockey skates small enough for them to rent. You may ask why don't they just buy new skates? Good question; this class is for tots that want to try skating and hockey to see if they like it before the parents invest a good amount of money in gear that might never be used more than a few times. Those of us that have played hockey or are involved in hockey, know just how much hockey equipment costs.
Now this is where you come in; Hockey 101 is seeking help in equipping these and future hockey players with used or new (if you can help out) equipment. Somewhere in a box, garage or closest all of us have used hockey gear that our kids have out grown. This page will help with getting that gear to the youth players so they can enjoy skating and playing more. We are asking for your donation to help us collect gear, and we will do our best to connect the gear to the kids who need it the most.
